Nonprofits and corporate clients often request JBL Films’ full-service start to finish video production, including creative services, scripting, all aspects of production, through editorial and delivery via web, projection, and digital playback.
Foundations and nonprofits have been a large part of JBL Films client base. JB Letchinger is an award winning director who has produced multiple promotional films including eight PRSA award-winners. Blending documentary with commercial techniques, JB can provide additional production services include consulting, music composition and recording, still photography and more.
Awards for directing promotional films include a Platinum from the Aurora Awards, a Silver Plaque and two Certificates of Merit from Chicago’s Intercom Festival. Recently the documentary-style PBS special “Mr. Rogers: It’s You I Like” was nominated for an Emmy award as “Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special.” JBL Films provided crew, gear and Director of Photography services for the film’s L.A. interviews. Interviews included Sarah Silverman, Judd Apatow, Chris Kratt and John Lithgow. JB lensed all the Los Angeles interviews for "Dark Shadows and Beyond - The Jonathan Frid Story" and in 2022 it has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Special. Familiar formats now include deep experience with 4K, Large Format sensors, Sony FS7, FX9 and A7 series, RED and Arri Alexa. JB speaks French, plays the piano, makes homemade bread and pizza, is married to Laura Letchinger, has two adult children, a BA in History, and studied filmmaking as a grad student at Columbia College Chicago.

New Camera Equipment: Sony FX9
JBL Films now has the new Sony FX9 available with our crew, lighting and support package. This camera is a great improvement and moves our cinematography services into the full frame sensor world of extremely shallow focus and maximum width on our lenses.
The sensor capture area is adjustable between shots with the push of a button. With this feature, the flexibility of lensing improves greatly. With documentary and fast moving coverage this could save the time it takes to switch lenses by simply adjusting the capture area. The auto focus capabilities are extraordinary and can result in great action coverage and precise adjustments within interviews as well. The improved dynamic range, signal to noise ratio and dual ISO, along with the Sony Venice-like S-Cinetone gamma option all add up to better quality images with more and cleaner detail.
